About me

I’m Raabia Hussain, a UK-based Specialist Optometrist with nearly nine years of clinical experience spanning primary optometry, hospital ophthalmology, emergency eye care and specialist clinical services.

My career has evolved from community optometry into secondary-care ophthalmology, where I work across glaucoma, medical retina and acute eye care. As an Independent Prescribing Optometrist, my work involves assessing and managing ocular disease, interpreting diagnostic imaging and making clinical decisions across a wide range of presentations.

Alongside face-to-face clinical practice, I work within telemedicine and virtual ophthalmology pathways, including low-risk glaucoma monitoring, acute case assessment, clinician support and referral triage. This has developed my interest in how clinical expertise, reliable diagnostic information and well-designed pathways can work together to support safe and effective patient care.

I also undertake clinical leadership responsibilities, supporting fellow clinicians with complex cases, contributing to clinical guidance and working on initiatives aimed at improving patient pathways and service delivery.

Over time, my interests have increasingly extended beyond individual clinical encounters to the wider development of eye care. I’m particularly interested in digital health, artificial intelligence, emerging clinical research and how innovation can be translated into meaningful improvements in everyday clinical practice.

Through this website, I hope to share clinical experiences, explore developments in ophthalmology and document the projects and ideas I’m working on along the way.
